This programme module aims to provide the learner with the knowledge and skills to understand the context of youth work policy, to be familiar with   provision of youth work services in Ireland, to examine current issues and to   understand the approaches and values which underpin youth work. 
The badge holder having completed this module will be able to;

Summarise the historical development of youth work in Ireland
Explain the current youth work structure and the agencies of provision
Outline the major developments in Irish youth work policy and their relationship to youth work practice
Explain the nature of youth work in Ireland and its purpose, values and approaches
Outline current youth work issues including the roles and contribution of the volunteer and paid youth worker
Examine where youth work policy is located within the current Irish political system.
Compile a comprehensive community or organisation profile
Investigate the community context of a youth group or organisation
Reflect critically on the values of youth work in the context of own values and experience
Identify the personal learning and challenges encountered in exploring youthwork.
